China bans Avatar
James Cameron’s Avatar movie has become China’s most successful movie after making $47 million.
China’s sensors ruled that the epic had become too dominant and also worried about it’s effect on audiences.
The China Film Group, which is run by the Government, believes the plot of human colonists trying to destroy an alien village for it’s resources steers too close to a very sensitive issue in China at present.
The LA Times reports explain the present issues in China. These are: That millions of Chinese people have been evicted from their homes to make room for high rises and government infrastructure projects. So this may lead audiences to think about forced removal, and may possibly incite violence.
Avatar’s success has also angered some Chinese officials, who fear the film’s success has taken too much money and has seized the market share from their domestic films.
Theatre operators and state media claim authorities have been told to stop screening the 2D versions only from January 23.

It's tough for Chinese artists to create their visions while within the confines of a authoritarian gov. Many have suggested that Avatar is critical of America's old policies toward the indigenous people. The USA government does not interfere because of its people's freedom to express such a position.

In 2008 the Chinese government banned blockbuster The Dark Knight, due to "cultural sensitivity" that could offend the Chinese people.

The US should put the same restrictions on Chinese films. This is depriving american companies of revenue and is against free trade. Better yet, tax all chinese goods until they change the rule.

We ran a typical Apple ibook g4 battery of tests, including games, applications, and a couple other areas. Time constraints limited the amount of testing we could get done before the NDA lift (and it's already a few hours late), but we will be providing a follow-up article with further testing and information.
