Nottingham Trent University Top 10 by Keith Johnston

1. Rock City: First and foremost it has to be having this country’s premier rock venue just a few yards up from the university! Anybody who is anybody has played at rock city at some point in their career and is a must see for all of Nottingham’s students

2. Canoeing: Having joined the canoe club last September I have not looked back. It was the best decision of my fist year, throwing yourself down white water rapids in a piece of plastic is a lot of fun, and with the national water sports centre with a man made white water course right on Trent’s doorstep there is no better place to do it!

3. Freshers week: A week of absolute carnage! Get pissed every night with your new chums and take advantage of the new independence of having your own place, then go to lectures in the morning along with 300 other people all feeling as hung-over as you!

4. Sports and societies: Sports clubs and societies are a big part of Trent life, all the clubs have a good time and all go on socials on a Wednesday and end up in the legendary Ocean nightclub. There is also the Sports and Societies ball at the end of the year, which is by far the most rowdy formal event anyone will ever attend!

5. Ocean: This huge nightclub boasts cheesy music, cheap drinks and lots of ladies! Also once a month there is the “kinky” nights which are themed fancy dress and create a lot of amusement! However unless you fancy getting chatted up by a forty year old woman covered in tattoos you might want to give it a miss on the weekend!

6. Students Union: The SU is great if you want a night out on a Saturday and don’t want to pay the inflated prices at the other clubs in the city. It looks like it will be getting even better next year with fatboy slim due to play next term!

7. Nottingham University: There is another university in Nottingham (commonly known as Beeston poly to Trent students). It is situated a few miles out of the city in acres and acres of green fields. If any of these higher class citizens should venture into the city centre to mingle with the common folk they should be greeted with chants of “I’d rather be a poly than a toff!” or other such remark! Seriously though it is good having another uni in the city as it means loads more young people more bars, clubs and the varsity sports matches which always have a good atmosphere.

8. Living in the ghetto: Most of Trent’s students find themselves living in delightful areas such as St Anne’s or Radford. These places never fail to provide entertainment from shootings, to police car chases, to ladies offering services for money! All part of life at Trent!

9. Trams: The brand new trams are fantastic if you live near the tram line. They are quick and regular and can drop you right outside the university. Also good for getting back after a few drinks in town, a lot cheaper than the taxis!

10. Spice Hut: Ill end this the way any night out in Nottingham should be ended. With spice hut. By ffar the best take away in the country and they have some very cheap deals.
