Student UK

Royal Holloway, University of London Top 10 by Patrick C

1. Founders Building. The stunningly beautiful victorian building based on a French chateau is a feast for the eyes. Opened by Queen Victoria herself, it's an ideal backdrop for romantic strolls, summer picnics, fabulous functions, and drunken nights.

2. Medicine Bar. A charmingly grubby sports bar that magically transformed into a funky modern hub for fabulous folks. A sleek new spot to rival London's best bars.

3. The Orbital. The Award-Winning Student Magazine provides great articles and competitions to the student population. The social pages is a particular campus favourite - watch out for those drunken and embarassing photos on union nights. You've been Orbed!

4. 1287AM Insanity. The Award-Winning Student Radio Station is a fountain of music, laughter, and a chatterbox all at once. It's also London's Best Student Radio Station, though recent awards promoted them into one of England's best. Hear the jokes (sometimes painfully bad), join the competitions (union tickets are extremely popular), feel the grooves (mostly R&B and Indie) and look out for random gimmicks which in the past involved monkeys, sumo wrestlers, santa, and a 'fugitive'. Hmmm...

5. Live Music. A recent campus phenomenon that brings bands and musicians to the college. Live events has had a rebirth at Holloway and live music came flooding back into the student scene. Get those vintage Ts out.

6. Summer Ball. The biggest annual ball ever to hit RHUL. It's extremely
popular to students and a must for everyone! An all-nighter fun with live acts, dance tents, food stalls, fun fairs, and lovely people in their
full-on black-tie ensemble. The 'Summer Ball Survivors Party' the following night is also something of a legendary tradition.

7. Noh Theatre. The only traditional Japanese theatre in existence in the UK. It gives students a diverse cultural scope, especially as the college attracts international students from all over the world.

8. Musical Theatre Society (MTS). The award-winning student theatre company is one of the most active groups in campus. With shows in Edinburgh Fringe Festival and London's West End, it's something of a jewel at Holloway's Royal crown.

9. Wednesday Nights. Simply legendary. The most popular union functions are nearly always scheduled on Wednesday evenings - from school discos, doctors & nurses, xxx, R&B and many more. Most of the sports teams are also in full force after training so it's all out fun for boys and girls. There is, of course, the occasional nudity from the rugby boys.

10. James Bond Appreciation Society (JBAS). Not to be mistaken with geeks watching James Bond films 24/7. No. This society is the biggest in campus and throws the most fabulously events including explosive union nights, fabulous black-tie balls, and charming boat parties. A Martini, shaken-not-stirred, is always handy.
