1.
Student Societies – there is a practically endless list
of societies for you join. They range from your standard sports
clubs to more wacky ones like a Sci Fi fan club or a debating
society. There are even some of the lesser sports such as Le Crosse
and Ju Jitsu. And if you cannot find the society for you, you can
always create your own providing you can find 15 members!
2.Night life - next year (September 09) the university is
set to open a brand new student entertainment facility called The
Forum. More details about it can be found at http://www.forumhertfordshire.co.uk/
If you prefer to go off campus for your night life, the Uno Bus
service provides a bus to local nightclub Batchwood Hall in St
Albans every Thursday.
- Multi-culturalism – The university is home to a lot of
international students and with Hertfordshire being so close to
London there are a lot of students commuting from London. This
makes for a great mix of cultures.
- Quality of Teaching – we have some leading academics
teaching at Hertfordshire.
- Student Union – we have a great student union at Herts
who are very proactive and helpful. They publish a student
newspaper called The Universe and do a lot of charity work
volunteer work…all this on top of providing the clubs and
societies.
- Sports Facilities - The DeHavilland campus is home to
the Hertfordshire Sports Village a fantastic sports facility which
includes a very reasonably priced gym, a swimming pool and basket
ball and netball courts. The facilities are of such a standard they
are being considered as a training facility for athletes for the
2012 London Olympics and The Saracens rugby team train there
too.
7. The Uno Bus Service – the university has its very own
bus service that makes commuting to university and travelling
between campuses incredibly easy. Further information on this
service can be found at http://www.unobus.info/
- Studynet - a facility on the internet where students can
keep up to date with assignment deadlines, lecture cancellations
and module information. You can private message your seminar tutor
if you didn’t understand a word of your last lecture and there’s
even a discussion facility on there where you can discuss the last
lecture with class mates to check that you were not the only one
who didn’t understand it. The lecturers are also known to
contribute to these online discussions making the whole learning
process more informal.
- 24 hour Learning Resource Centres – more commonly
referred to as the LRC. This is where students come when they need
to knuckle down and study. Jam packed full of PCs, Macs and for
those who prefer to work in perfect silence there are even private
study rooms that can be booked at reception. There is an LRC in all
three campuses and the best thing about them is that they are 24
hour! So if like me you are the type to leave assignments right
till the very last minute the LRC is for you! You can stay all
night sat in front of a PC thumping away at the keyboard until that
last sentence has been written and the last spell check has been
performed. Students have even been known to take their pyjamas and
slippers with them when studying all night long.
10. Halls of residence – there is a wide range of
accommodation to suit every budget!
