Wales College, Newport Uni top 10 by H

1. The Legendary TJs
Underground alternative club that's most famous for being the place that Kurt Cobain proposed to Courtney Love! Has loads of bands playing most nights - a lot of the big bands do impromptu gigs there under false names. Big student hangout.

2. Lostprophets
Ian Watkins, lead singer with the lostprophets studied Graphics here!

3. Location
Caerleon Campus is in a stunning location, just outside Newport City Centre. Home of the Romans about 2000 years ago, there's an amphitheatre, roman baths and barracks for you to see (and impress your Mum and Dad with your superior knowledge about all things historical!). The Uni has a free bus service running between the Caerleon Campus and the other one at Allt-yr-yn. Caerleon has about 17 pubs in the village so plenty to choose from and the locals are all student-friendly! Newport is only about a 15 train journey away from Cardiff so we've got the best of both worlds.

4. Celtic Manor Resort
This posh hotel is going to host the Ryder Cup in 2010. Newport's going to be packed with rich people for this! It's pretty big news around here!

5. Friendly staff
Everyone I've come across at UWCN has been really helpful and friendly. The tutors are accessible and know their stuff. There's a great feeling of community on campus - it's been easy to make friends.

6. Human Traffic
Justin Kerrigan who wrote and directed Human Traffic studied at Newport and a lot students who were here at the time worked on the film. Film is pretty big here at Newport - another ex-student has just won two BAFTAs and a lecturer has been nominated for an Oscar twice!

7. Sport
There are plenty of sports societies at Uni and there's more to watch off campus too. Newport Rugby club has a huge following and Speedway is also popular Oh, and there's football. Those active types can also go to the Brecon Beacons to do stupid things like pot holing and rock-climbing.

8. The Newport Medieval Ship
Archaeologists have just discovered a medieval ship in the banks of the River Usk in Newport, which pre-dates the Mary Rose by at least 50 years! It's a pretty important find and a couple of my mates have worked on the dig. The local council invited the public to see the ship in the banks of the river over two weekends before it was excavated and over 10,000 people went to see it! Go figure! ... was amazing, though.

9. It's cosmopolitan
Newport seems to have a draw about it. Once you're here, people don't want to leave. OK, it's not in one of the most fashionable parts of the world, but there's a hell of a lot worse places you could be. There are students here from all over the world and they love it!

10. Stone Roses
The cherub on Newport Bridge is on the front cover of 'Love Spreads' by the Stone Roses!

That's just ten, come down to Newport to see for yourself!
