What to Take to Uni
No idea what to take to University or College with you? Have a look
at our thorough list below to give you a rough idea of what you
might need. Don't forget to ask what you will be provided with
before you start packing!!
Documents

TV Licence (if you take a TV)

Kitchen
A lot of the kitchen stuff will depend if you're going self
catering or not. Check first what will be provided!!

One-person casserole dish
Small frying pan
1 small, 1 large saucepan with lids
Cheese grater, Breadknife
Tin opener, Scissors
Plastic bowl or box with lid

Chopping knife, Chopping Board
Sandwich bags - good for taking nibbles to lectures with you! Also
great for things you open and need to contain. e.g. sugar / teabags
etc.
Easy to follow recipe book
Cling film, Tin foil
Sieve
Tray
Tea towels
Dishcloth / Scrubbing brush
Store cupboard ingredients - coffee, tea, milk, sugar, cooking oil,
salt and pepper, pasta
Don't forget - there will be shops when you get there, so don't
panic if you forget anything! And you can buy stuff like washing-up
liquid/washing powder when you get there.
Studying - again, check what is provided for your
bedroom.
Desk lamp
Notice board - for timetables, numbers, etc.
Message board with erasable marker eg. a mini white board or one of
those magnetic sand ones that you can wipe
Diary/planner - to keep track of assignments
Dictionary and thesaurus
Stuff like paper you can take with you, but again, if you're stuck
for packing space, just buy it from the Uni/college shop when you
get there!

in your room in the first few weeks…an open door in freshers week
is much more friendly

Calculator - for sorting out finances
Computer/ laptop - saves on queues in computer rooms and makes it
easier to work in your room
Blank disks for backing up work
USB pen drive - makes it easy to carry work between your computer
and the computer room etc.
Printer - not essential but very useful to have your own
Network cable - to access the internet from the socket in your
room
Mini fridge - only if you have space!
Bedside lamp
Mobile and charger
CD player or just bring speakers to plug into your computer
TV - but the license fee is expensive. There will be a common room
with a TV you can watch nearby. It's also a great way of meeting
new people.
